Zaeeda has explained her Mathematical thinking beautifully in this post. This is a great example of how to add and subtract decimals.

The impossible bridge
This week the Batman Reading group have been reading a book called the impossible bridge. The story is about children building a range of bridges to solve problem. The boys were then challenged to work together to create two bridges from the book Together.
Below is Qwanelle's Blog post about this learning.
We read the impossible bridge and made two bridges.
Report
What we found out… We found out that the triangle bridge bent in the middle.
Problem...We had to make it strong.
What we did... was we had to make triangles and sellotaped the triangles on to the cardboard.
Report
Problem… was the bridge kept falling.
What we did… we cut it in half and then we folded it 7 times and the other half was put on top.
What we found out...we found out that it kept falling but the lego was strat.

The Big Flag Debate
This week we have been writing about the possible change of the New Zealand flag. The amazing children in the Pavilion have chosen whether they would change the flag or keep the old one.
Here is AJ F piece of writing that looks at both sides.

I think that we should change the flag so we don’t have the union jack any more. Lots of people are saying that we are Australian. We like the new flag so people don‘t say that that we are Australia. New Zealand is a proud independent country.
We are no longer a British colony. So we shouldn’t have another country’s flag on our flag. The new flag is the best.
We should not change the flag because it was a part of our Nation. The Blue comes from the British Union Jack and has come to represent the blue sea and sky. The southern cross emphasises our location in the south pacific ocean.

Maths Problem Solving
A woman has two dogs, three rabbits and lettuce. She must cross a river. Her boat is unable to transport all in one crossing. If she transported the dogs, the rabbits would eat the lettuce. If she transported the lettuce, the dogs would eat the rabbits.
Question: How is she able to transport them all safely?

Unicycling
Last week the children in the Hulk and Wonder Women reading groups read the Journal article- Just One wheel. This article is about the children at Bombay School riding unicycles during lunch and morning tea. As a follow up activity the children were challenged to take the knowledge they had learnt from reading the article and apply it to riding a unicycle themselves. They then had to reflect on the experience. Here is Levonah's amazing video.
