A Hero Lies in You

This year we have seen the heroes come out in force. Everyone has been doing their bit to help each other as we go through the strange year that is 2020. This year rooms 21, 22 and 23 wanted to show that when we feel down, we just need to remember who we are, what we love and know that, We Are All Heroes!

This movie is about us but also about you. Yes You!

Messy Art

 This year we are look at colour and what amazing master pieces we can create. Earlier in the term Room 21 and the block has a great time creating a piece of art using balls. 

 

Art Alive

This term we were son lucky to start the term at alert level 1 and be able to sit together in the hall for the first time in a long time. Our focus for this term is Art Alive each team shared their focus and the wonderful creations of their teachers. Check it out.

Keeping Fit at Home

 Another Term and another period of learning from home for us here in Auckland. Yesterday in our Google Meet we talked about the importance of going outside and more importantly moving our bodies during this period of Alert Level 3. 

Together we came up with the Challenge of 25 Star Jumps, 25 High Knees and 5 Sit Ups.

Learning to read a grid

Yesterday and today we learned about reading grid coordinates with the wonderful work created by our student teachers.

In the activity we had to fill in the table and to show the positions of our Pokemon on the grid.
We loved the activity, we specially liked that it used our art.

We didn't get time to write our stories about the Pokemon on the grid and their positions but will be doing that early next term. We hope our student teacher might come and visit so they could help us and maybe even play a game of battle ship if they are not too busy.

Preposition Videos

On Tuesday we had an amazing time making movies using the preposition we have been learning from our wonderful student teachers.

We started out by watching the example which can be found on this site:



After watch the example all the children were excited to get going. They were given the option of making their video as an Explain Everything using photos and voice recordings (Which they do a lot) or making it using multiple short clips into a movie in iMovie.

Everyone loved making these movies. A group stayed in class with Mrs Carruthers while another group went outside with Mr Vogt. It was cool to see so many different creations.

Prepositional language

Today was the first day using the site created for us by our University of Auckland student teachers. This site focuses on position and orientation, today we looked at prepositions.

Using Explain Everything

This week John explained the basics of using Explain Everything.

Space Travel

Room 21 got inspired by the launch of Falcon 9 and Crew Dragon to the ISS and we decided to write our own stories about going to space.

One day I went to the Astronaut place and I was an astronaut . We hopped into Space Shuttle and it was fun. then it was the Countdown 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.it took for 24 hours, then we were there. We Went into the space station. I see my cousins
Because they are Astronauts too. also we had to wear safe stuff. I have my cousins and I was floating and it was fun and we had to do
Exercise. we lived there and it was fun to live there.

One day I went to the international space station, when I stepped into the international space station, the whole area was almost white.I stepped into the rocket ship and sat on the seat, I waited for them to count from 10 to 0, when they got to 0 I hold on tight then the booster burst out flames for the rocket to burst straight through the blue sky.It took me a day to get to space, when a day came by I was in space,I felt the rocket shaking because the rocket was splitting, I floated out of the rocket, in space it was all black like it was night time, I saw the sun,moon and Saturn. I floated to the moon and landed on it, the moon had bumps so I had to float around it because if I float over it I might float more up and I get lost so I floated around it after I planted a flag and went to Saturn because if I went to the sun I will burn so I went to Saturn, when I got to Saturn I got to the edge to see the ring surrounding Saturn,after that I went back to the rocky and went back to the international space station.

Last week we made posters about ourselves and our blogs for maths. We used the data from our blogs to create questions and answer them. We then wrote maths problem so that others could figure out the answer.

Last week we made figure me out poster. Before we made our actual poster we had to make a plan and solve the problems ourselves.

We had to look closely at our blogs to find the answers to the question. Then we had to use addition, subtraction and multiplication ti write problems for others to solve.

Super Me Ponyamon

This term the children in Room 21 have been learning about thinking about super heroes. In this activity they had to take a picture of their teachers face and their own faces and create a hero and villain.

Here is Ponyamon story.

One day on a cloudy day the electric superman went out to look for a villain. The electric superman found one so then he sneak and creeped up and it was a fire girl electric superman said to the fire woman“Stop destroying the world!” Then  fire girl said “let's have a challenge.” electric superman said “if I win you will have to stop destroying the world because the people haveno house and all the house are burned.'' The electric superman went as fast as a flash when he went down from the moon. He did a super electric smash that the fire girl said “stop!” Then the  electric superman said “stop destroying!” but the fire girl smashed him with her super cloudy fire and did a storm smash.electric man used his super shield then it was night, fire girl said “tomorrow we will fight again.” The next day electric superman and fire girl  had a fight electric superman did a super strike electric dragon and fire girl got hurt. fire girl was screaming and she was saying “help!” But no one came to help because she was a villain. She went to say sorry to everyone but no one listened. She got so angry that no one was listening so she started to steal pot and all kinds of stuff but then all the people caughted her and also electric superman caught her then all the people came and chased her. She  was running so fast but then the people got her. Then  she was in jail after the people lived better. One day a fire girl escaped and all the people got shocked. She Was so powerful that she threw everything away and then she counted from 3 to 1.Then she fired the world, all the people screamed at her, “don’t destroy our world!” The people thought the country was broken forever but it wasn’t because electric superman  cleaned it all up and then all the world lived happily ever after.

Welcome Student Teachers

Kiwisport Gymnastics

Yesterday we had our first Kiwisport after the Covid-19 Lockdown. It is a little bit different because we needed to stay on our dot when we were not doing our rotations.

We loved Kiwisport Gymnastic because we had fun moving and enjoyed doing jumps, backward rolls, hopping and more.

Design and describe your Pokemon

This week as one of our writing activities we created our own Pokemon. We had to draw them and then talk about their powers, attacks, habitat and looks. The whole class had so much fun making our Pokemon we asked to do it again next week.


Today I was drawing a pokemon it was not that hard and I did it with out help.

War Mascots

Just Keep Writing

Reading Baskets of Fire

Last week we read Baskets of Fire. Here are some of our creations.

I drew a picture about the story I read of an explorer called Ngātoro-i-rangi who climbed a mountain and he said to his sisters to bring him a kete full of fire because he was cold but he ran past three baskets of fire already that's why he only has one.

Ngatoro-i-rangi was a brave explorer. He was a expert at many things. He knew about stars and the sea, and magic. Many years ago when the first people came and made Aotearoa their home, Ngatoro-i-rangi sails his Waka all the way from Hawaii. When he arived in Aotearoa he set off  to explore the new land. He found a place with a huge lake and many mountains. Today, we call that place Taupo.
In order for him to claim these places he needed help from his sister back in Hawaiki. With magic the sisters were able to send  the Basket of Fire through the Gods all the way to Aotearoa!
With Kete of fire it helps Ngatoro-i-rangi able to claim the mountains.

Today for reading we are all reading different stories about the world outside. For our reading task we need to make a picture that creates our very own plant using thing from outside or inside our house.

My plant has silver metal flowers that stick out from the bushy mint leave. The long seeded yellow flower grows high above everything else.

How to play gotcha

If you see someone in your family touching their face you say "gotcha" then they have to stop touching their face and try to not touch their face with their hands. There are two winners who get a prize. One person who has not been touching their face wins. One person who has caught lots of people wins. Our prize was lollies!

Today was a fun day. We made lots of cookies, and they were yummy with lots of sugar. We made cookie dough and put it in the oven. We made icing and the color was pink, green, and dark green. My siblings and I all got to put icing on the cookie and it was so yummy. We all ate our cookies outside and play games.

Giraffes

Giraffes are smart because they can dive and flip. They have the tallest necks because they eat leaves. When they walk they are loud. Giraffes are the tallest mammals in the world.
Giraffes live in the wild in Africa or in zoos. At the zoo giraffes have pools so they can drink the water. They are very flexible because they do tricks in the water.

If I was one of the giraffes I will fell bored to walk stairs but happy to jump in the pool. I will also run back up the stairs after I swim to the end of the pool.  At the end I will drink a water then run to out of the pool.

The giraffes were coming out of there cages and then one of the giraffes were joking at the security cameras then he poke his tongue out. 

They started walking to the top of the diving board. They went round and round to get to the top. 

After one giraffe was hanging upside down, so the giraffes can do a flip next they jumped in the deep big pool.

 Then after the giraffes kept on going until they drank the pools water then they herd a sound then they have to run away back to there cages.

I have notice that the way children share is different.

Pet dragon writing

His week we imagined that we had a pet dragon. We talked about how we got it and what it was like and even what we would do with it. Here are some of our stories:

Tuesday 11th February one day I was running with my friends and then I saw a mysterious egg. I looked afte  the BaBy egg and then when I pulled out the BaBy egg and then it kan a Btfol Dragon and  her name was Rose she was the fastest Btfol Dragon Eva.

 I was home walking from school on a hot sunny day and then I saw a egg by a Tree .Then I ran and put it in my shirt and ran home so excited. The next day I waited for the egg to hatch The colour was green and sparkling. when I was at the swimming pool the egg hatched. The dragon was sparkling with beautiful eyes with a little mouth. I enjoyed my pet dragon and became best friends. We had a lot of fun and played tag and she was so fast.

On Tuesday morning I walking to keep me fit. I started to look down and I saw a gold little egg, I was large. I slowly bentdown and picked it up And ran back I went in the room. I sat there and it was already 10 o’clock. Just that minute I hear a cracking sound. I went to the egg and it started to hatch. After a while a dragon hatched out of the egg the dragon was blue and green it breathed fire and it has thick shinny scales. It hasn’t strong wings, the best this is he darts quickly. I went to school so I put him in my bag. He grew so fast all of my friends didn’t want to be my friend. I couldn’t take him home with no name, so I named him Pluto.

This week we started Kiwisport for the term. We had a wonderful coach and he is teaching us all about balancing.
