Christmas Fun Day

This year all the students from year 0-4 had a christmas fun day on the field. We played on bounce castles, had ice cream, rode bikes and we even had a turn on the water slide. It was a really fun day!

Merry Christmas Room 30

This year we have been so privileged to have had to opportunity to write to a class in Rotorua. We have really enjoyed reading their letters and writing to them about our lives. I have been wonderful seeing how different people spend their time and learning about what Room 30 are learning.

We found out what sounds the musical notes make. Our class have been  playing recorder’s and it has been so much fun. We played these notes with the recorder's, a, b, d, c and g.

Film Festival

Yesterday we went to the 10th Annual Manaiakalani Film Festival. It was a wonderful experience and the Room 14 really enjoyed the trip. We left school a little after 10.30 and got to see movies from Pt England School and Tamaki Primary. It was fantastic watching all the children on the big screen.

The Real Story of Peter Pan

This Movie was created as a result of our learning about planet earth and beyond. As part of this topic we focused on how the sun impacted on us. As a result we talked a lot about shadows and how they are made. We decided to take the story of Peter Pan and put a Pt England Twist on it.

I came up with and outline for the story and Kiarah and Angelica wrote the script. The rest of the class performed in the movie. Sadly Lorenzo was away during our filming and Israel choose to take a behind the scenes role however we know that they had a impact on the overall movie.

I am so proud of the Room 14 learners and the effort they put it. A big ups to Jermain our wonderful shadow although you may not see his face we feel his presence in the movie. We hope you enjoyed our movie we certainly enjoyed making it!

Atawhai's Wonderful story about her Holiday

On Wednesday I went to the swimming pools with my Sister, my Brother, Keyana and my cousin. We all got dress into our togs and put clothes on top of our togs. After that we all  hopped into the car and we drove off to the pools. I was so excited. When we got there we were so happy. Then we paid for it, when we paid we got dress in the dressing room. Then we were walking to the kid  pools we went in and it was so  much fun.

Keyana was teaching my sister to swim because she didn’t know how to swim. So I joined in with my brothers was carrying each other on their backs and my Mum she was reading her magazines. So we kept on swimming and swimming for half an hour. Then we had to get out so we did. Then we went to get us pizza it was so yummy. Finally we went back  home and had pizza that was the best day.

Learning Recorder

This is Troy's Recount about learning recorder as a class.

This morning me and my class got to play a recorder once we got a recorder we got into a circle Miss Davis played a little song it was cool she told us that she went to a school and they taught her how to play a recorder.After that Miss Davis taught us how to play C and D note after we learnt Miss Davis get Into partners and go to a table and learn C and D with your partner at a table after we learnt that we went and sat down on the mat.Then we got Into another circle and we went a round the circle playing C 3 times 3.

After that Miss Davis called our color groups to go and put the recorders In a bucket of water. After we did that we lined up outside ready to go to wahi safe when we got there she said she could hear us playing the recorders.

Suzie and the Space Nuts Kiarah

Last Term the Neptune group looked at the Suzzie and the Space Nuts Comic books as part of our Guardians of the Galaxy unit. They then had to make their own comic that showed the beginning, middle and end of each episode. This is Kiarah's Wonderful activity.

Animal Fractions Israel

Last week Room 14 learnt about fractions. The Pyramids group learnt to find a whole from given fractions and identify what fraction of the animals were 1 paddock or 2 paddocks.

Kiwi Sport Volleyball

This term Room 14 have Volleyball for Kiwisport. Today our wonderful coach taught us about serving. We learnt to do an underarm and overarm serve. We had a lot of fun at Kiwisport today and can't wait for next week.

Diwali by Hendrix

Making Musical Madness

This week Room 14 made their very own instruments. They used a disposable cup and their choice of materials to make a shaker. On Friday afternoon we used our instruments to make our very own songs about our term theme Musical Madness. Check them out...

Yoland's Recount

Immersion Assembly. This is Yolanda's recount about her favourite parts of immersion assembly last week.

One morning, our teacher said excitedly  that we had to go to the hall.  I walked with my class enthusiastically into the hall then we sat down beautifully. I went to the hall  because there was an assembly to start the new term. When I got in the hall we saw Mr J was  wearing crazy clothes and  they were singing a song.

Our  teachers were doing items.  My favorite movie was team 5s movie. They were pretending to be a family and they watched the movie and were eating  popcorn in a cup the movie was called the Lion king. They changed songs in the movie so they can have the different feelings. They  were scared of the movie then they told there dad to change the movie. Then they were laughing at the movie.

Finally it was finished Mr Burt and Mrs Nua and Mr J were  singing the song for us to leave.

I liked the assembly  when  the teachers of our school when they were doing there Items. I liked when Miss Davis was saying she is going to see bunnies, she wait to Mr Moran then Miss King said to Mr moran, where  are you going to?  Then he said he was going to the beach.  

I like when Mr J and Mr Burt was singing the song.

Duffy Award Israel

What a great start to term 4 we have had in Room 14. Everyone has shown that they have learnt to put in 100% and get their work completed to a high standard. Israel especially has shown us his positive attitude towards learning and completing his learning tasks to a high standard. Awesome start to the term Israel Miss Davis and Room 14 are proud of you!!

Nuiean language week

This week is Nuiean language week! We are so lucky in Room 14 to have Julianna and Kristopher who happily shared with use their language and culture this week. We also had a number of students who choose to join in with the Nuiean performing group even though this was not their own culture but they support their friends.

Have a look at the wonderful performance for this group you will not believe how amazing the are. Well done Nuiean group and thank you for sharing your culture with us!

Term 4 immersion

This term our theme is Musical Madness. At the beginning of each term the teachers create an item to share with the students and to inspire them for the term to come.

Team three thought long and hard about our item. None of us felt we were amazing singer and we and we wanted to tell and story. So we did what we know....Acting :/ take a look at our lip sync conversation you have to see it to believe it.

2017 Production: Live Stream

This term we have had our school production. Our production was called Live Stream and it was about the local creek and how it has been polluted making it uninhabitable for some local creatures.
A small group for students from Room 14 were in the production these children were, Hendrix, Le'Shar, Gabby, Keyana and Julianna.

I am so proud of the way they performed over the three nights and so grateful to have been a part of such a wonderful show. Big ups to all the actors and dancers you all worked hard, had a positive attitude and were wonderful to work with. A special thanks to the Penguin and Salmon dancers for all your hard work and practice. 

What an awesome show. Room 14 and Miss Davis are proud of every teacher, parents and most of all students who help or watch the show.

Making New Friends

This year we have been writing to Mrs Belts year 3 class in Rotorua. We each have a Pen friend who we sent our letter off to. This week we received our replies. Room 14 were so excited to hope their letters and read what their pen friends had to say.

 After opening their letters the eagerly wrote their replies to their buddies. We hope our new friends enjoy their letters as much as we have enjoyed ours.

Our Planet and Beyond

Today we had an exciting opportunity to learn from a real scientist. He came to our school to share with us his knowledge about the solar system. We had load of fun learning from him and exploring the images that he had to share with us.

Cross Country

We have been training for weeks and the day has finally arrived. Today is cross country day. We waited on the hard court for our turn and then did our very best as we raced to the finish line.

It was a wonderful day and even though Room 14 didn't take home any places we are all very proud of our effort. Thank you to all the teachers and parents who supported us!

The Ballet

This week some lucky students from year 3 to year 8 got to attend the Royal New Zealand Ballet performance of Romeo and Juliet. The students were so excited to get on the bus and travel into town for the show.

We had a wonderful time at the show and the year 3 and 4 girls from Room 14 that went say it was an experience they won't forget anytime soon.

Stardome Trip

This term we have been learning about planet earth and beyond. As part of our inquiry team 3 had a trip to the stardome. We went by bus and spent half the day playing at the amazing playground and learning at the stardome. The trip was enjoyed by all and we learnt so much about our solar systems. We hope you enjoy our movie.

NED

This week we had the lovely lady from NED come a visit us. She talked about the NED values of Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do your best. We enjoyed watching her do tricks with her Yoyo and we love the message NED had to share with us.

As a result of this we had Room 16 to visit and we create NED masks with them. We were Role Models for them and we hope our friendships with our little buddies continue.

Space Adventure

This week the children of room 14 wrote about a space adventure. All their stories were very different. Here is Kiarah's wonderful story.

One day in space town there lived a woman and her name was Sam she didn’t have that  much money because she worked as a car fixer , she only got 50 dollars an hour just enough to  buy food  and pay rent each week. One day after fixing a car sam went home and she received a letter from the planet company and the letter said  “you have won  two tickets to go to any planet you  and your friend  choose!” Sam was so excited. She chose the friend that she wanted to go with and his name was Jack. After  one hour they packed a speaker,toothbrush, toothpaste, food, clothes and lots of water because they were saying in space for two days.  

The day after that  they went to the planet company and they got to go in a flying car, but first they  they had a good look at all the engines. Sam and  Jack looked at all of the ships and rockets. Jack asked Sam “ what are we going in i forgot ?” Sam said “we are going in a flying car!” After all of that they got into their astronaut suits and got into the flying car and set up the car and  off they went to  planet jupiter. Then something bad bad bad happened their engine  run out of  oil ,but the car was on top of jupiter.They didn’t  know how to get back home though. Luckily they saw some aliens that had some oil but they had to communicate Sam knew alien so it wasn’t a problem Sam asked them and the aliens said “yes”  they put some oil in the car and went to sleep. The next day they woke up and ate some food, had a boogie and got changed in their clothes then their suits after doing that they set off home and cooked some dinner after that Sam decided that Jack could move in with her Sam asked Jack if he wanted to move in with her and he said “yes.” After that they both went to bed, before going to bed sam shouted” i’m  going to be famous, but both of the were  famous. The next day they got a job as a astronaut, they flew all around the solar system every day and night.

Place Value

Last week all of Room 14 have been learning about place value. They have learnt how to expand and contract numbers and how to add numbers using hundreds, tens and ones.

Term 3

Term 3 has arrived and we are all surprised at how much we have grown this year. Here is a photo of use now ready to leap into learning in our new term. This term we are learning about space with the theme Guardians of the Galaxy.

Fairy Bread Recount by Kristopher

On thursday we made fairy bread. first we washed our hands and put one glove on. After that we got a piece of bread.we got a knife.we buttered the bread.we put some different kind of sweet and crunchy sprinkles we got a shape cutter or something’ and shaped it like a star.when know one ate a piece of the bread i was sneaky and i took I bite of it my friends were going to tell on me.but chaun took a bite to we asked miss Davis if we could eat it now chuan was eating the whole thing very fast. Me and siua were like wow he must be a hunguest. It was fun making it and i hope we do it again.

Fairy Bread by Kitione

Last thursday we were making fairy bread.first we put the bread on the plate next we buttered it. later we put sprinkles on our bread . I am so hungry that I just want to eat my fairy bread .

After we were finish I had so much fun and was my best thing I did . it tasted sweet and crunchy.  it was for matariki.

Teingoa's Tamarereti Story

This term we have been learning a lot about the story of Tamarereti. Teingoa retold the story in his own words. Well done Teingoa. 

A long  time ago there was a village next to a lake. When it was very dark people didn't go outside because they could not see. But there was a boy called  Tamarereti who was a brave warrior. One morning he was so hungry. He went fishing and got lots of fish. Then the wind went away so he just went to sleep and waited for the wind to come back. Later the wind came back and took Tamarereti to a different island. It was getting dark so he ate the fish and after he was finished he did not know where he was and he knew

the taniwha would come and eat him.

He took some shiny pebbles and threw them in the sky so he could see. When he was back at home he went to sleep. Then he woke up when it was morning because someone was at the door. It was Ranginui. He came and said to Tamarereti “thank you for lighting up the sky.” The end.

Hendrix Ran Away!

Last week Hendrix applied his knowledge of prepositions to create his own story with picture of himself. He used screencastify to record his story. Great work Hendrix, Room 14 and Miss Davis are proud of you.

This we learnt about prepositions and we wrote a story based on our book. 

We are Stars!

Last week we wrote about how amazing we are and the things that make use a Matariki Star. This is Angelica's wonderful I am a Star poster. Great work Angelica we know you will achieve all your goals.

Kharizma's Movie

This term Kharizma work very hard to create an exciting animation. She drew all the picture and wrote the script. Her animation retells the story of Tamarereti and how he put the stars in the sky.

A fun last day of term!

Today Room 14 had the movie and popcorn they had earned with all their hard work this term. We started off the day by icing biscuits and decorating them with some lollies. We also decorated cups for our popcorn. After morning tea we watched the movie Meet the Robinsons. This movie linked to our term theme of Now That Is Thinking! We enjoyed thinking about what is possible when we think, create and keep moving forward. We also learnt that we often learn more for failure than success. If something doesn't work the first time as creative inventors we must keep trying and designing to achieve success.

Orienteering

This term Room 14 have had orienteering for Kiwisport. We learnt all about using maps and had fun running around the school to find exciting new things.


Today it was raining so we put together cut up maps in small groups. We all enjoyed orienteering and hope we get the chance to do it again soon.

Hula Dancing

 Today we had a wonderful group of dancers come from a school in Hawaii. It was great have a group so passionate about sharing their culture with us. We hope you enjoy the movie as much as I enjoyed the show.

Flying our Kites

Room 14 have been waiting and waiting for a windy day to fly our kites. But we never got one. So sadly we had to made our own wind by running. Today we took our kites outside and ran around the court to see if we could make them fly.

We really enjoyed testing our kites and now we have taken them home to wait for a windy day to see if they will fly without running.
